The Best Actress nominee for her role inLoving stunned on the Red Carpet with a bright red gown. She used her red carpet moment as a chance to make a political statement—the ribbon pinned to her chest says "ACLU," which stands for the American Civil Liberties Union. Other stars, including Lin Manuel-Miranda and Karlie Kloss, also sported ribbons supporting the organization.
Viola Davis is up for Best Supporting Actress inFences. She won her first Golden Globe for the role in January, and made history as the first African-American actress to have three Oscar nominations, according to theLos Angeles Times. She stepped out on the red carpet in a fire-engine red dress and a short front-swept hairstyle.
The singer and star of Disney Channel'sDescendentschose an incredibly sophisticated, grown-up look for her Oscars debut.
TheHidden Figuresstar (which is up for Best Picture) looked very Old Hollywood with a curve-hugging Alberto Ferretti velvet gown with an off-the-shoulder neckline and gorgous diamond necklace. She told Ryan Seacrest that she was shocked when she initially read the script forHidden Figuresbecause she'd never heard the stories of the women who so crucial at NASA to getting astronauts in orbit.
The singer andEdge of Seventeenstar also rocked the white gown trend on the red carpet, although she gave her look a little bit of added edge with a slicked-back bun and smoky eyes. This is her second Academy Awards appearance—the first when she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in 2011 forTrue Grit, when she was 14.
The model and cookbook author accompanied her husband John Legend to the Oscars, where he will be performing. She owned the white sparkly trend seen everywhere on the red carpet with a long jeweled gown featuring a tall thigh slit and cape. Teigen recently made her post-maternity return to theSports Illustrated Swimsuitissue. "I haven't shot since baby," she told SI. But she said she felt like everyone at the shoot helped to "embrace your body no matter what."
