This VS Model Wore Her Hair Differently Than the Rest—Here’s Why
By now, “bombshell waves” are practically synonymous with the glitter-filled annual extravaganza known as the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Long, brushed-out waves with plenty of bounce (courtesy of Sarah Potempa’s , 0) have been the hairstyle du jour for the lingerie runway show for as long as we can remember—until now, that is. This year, Angolan model Maria Borges walked the runway sans extensions, rocking her strands short and natural—and looked downright stunning, strong, and confident doing it. “I told my agent I wanted to walk in the Victoria’s Secret show with my natural hair,” the 23-year-old toldEssence. “I was nervous, but I had to do it. When they said ‘yes’ I didn’t expect it, but I was so happy!”
Borgan later tweeted, “Are you ready for the 2015 @VictoriasSecret fashion show?! I'll be rocking my Afro hair this year for THE show!” Her excitement is contagious and reflects a positive and (hopefully) continuing new direction in the fashion and beauty industries, one where “natural”—realnatural, not one person’s idea of natural—and “glamorous” can easily go hand in hand.
